The similarities between consultants and boy band singers

I got my performance review today, and obviously, they gave me feedback on strengths and developmental points. Developmental points = euphemism for weakness. Say it as it is! haha. That aside, this is my second performance review and the second time I've heard this.

You should make sure that the things that you do are heard and seen by the people who matter. Also, if you want to be a really good consultant, make sure that you build relationships with your clients. You know, the small talk. How's your daughter? How's the dog? Oh, the weather in Seattle's been pretty bad huh? Don't just make small talk with the more junior clients - make sure the senior exec clients know you're making small talk. Joke around a bit, be a little bit funny... Just being good at what you do is not good enough.

Makes me think back to the Take That glory days. When they broke up, Robbie became really popular and famous, but Gary didn't. Gary was the real talent though. So being good at analyzing, at writing, it's not good enough. Gary had the talent but was boring, Robbie had personality and could sorta sing and was eventually the one that became really famous.
